Description
A Gasketed Plate Heat Exchanger (PHE) is a type of heat exchanger that uses a stack of thin, corrugated metal plates separated by elastomer gaskets to transfer heat between two fluids efficiently without allowing them to mix. The plates are arranged in a frame and create alternating flow channels so that the hot and cold fluids pass through adjacent passages, enabling heat to transfer through the plate surfaces. The corrugations on the plates promote turbulence, which increases heat transfer efficiency while maintaining a compact design. The gaskets serve two main purposes: sealing the plates to prevent leakage and directing the fluids into the correct flow paths. This design allows the heat exchanger to be easily dismantled for cleaning, maintenance, or capacity expansion by adding more plates. Due to their high thermal efficiency, compact size, and flexibility, gasketed plate heat exchangers are widely used in industries such as food and beverage processing, HVAC systems, chemical processing, pharmaceuticals, and power plants.
